The USSF provides a space to build relationships, learn from each others' experiences, share our analysis of the problems our communities face, and bring renewed insight and inspiration to social movement organizations. Through the USSF process, grassroots groups, coalitions and networks build leadership and develop the collective consciousness, vision and strategies needed to realize another world. The USSF is our opportunity to demonstrate to the world that Another World is Possible! The USSF is a mass movement convergence where we produce our own agenda, our own program, and our own solutions to change. 2010 USSF Goals: *Create a space for social movement convergence and strategic discussion *Advance social movements agenda for action and transformation *Build stronger relationships and collaboration between movements *Deepen our commitment to international solidarity and common struggle *Strengthen local capacity to improve social conditions, organizing and movement building in Detroit For more information and to register, go here. | Offer by respected leader helped to change his lifeMy ... - Indianapolis Star Posted: 18 Apr 2010 10:45 AM PDT As president and CEO of the North-American Interfraternity Conference, I lean on my experience as a husband, father, teacher, collaborator, communicator, doer, motivator and critic to be successful. I view each day as a new opportunity to teach, build relationships and advocate for the fraternity movement. Knowing that the NIC and fraternities makes a difference daily in the lives of young men across the country is satisfying. My biggest break came in 1998 when then-NIC President Jonathan Brant asked to meet with me when I came to Indianapolis. Jonathan and I had known each other for many years, as I was a volunteer for NIC's educational programs. During our conversation, Jonathan offered me the position of director of leadership education. I wasn't looking for a job. At the time, I was the director of campus activities at Colorado State University. Two weeks later, I reported for work in Indianapolis. Jonathan was someone I respected greatly because of his value structure, his ability to articulate the mission and vision of fraternities, his genuine interest in what you had to say and his dedication to leadership. I'm proud, 12 years later, to sit in his seat and lead the NIC. Jonathan took a risk hiring me. My campus experiences had trained me in a different way. It was my big break. The position allowed me to pursue my passions of student development, curriculum writing, and changing the focus and direction of the next generation of leaders. My next big break was being named the NIC's president and CEO. I learned quickly that the view is quite different in the driver's seat versus the passenger seat. Guidance and advice from the NIC board on transitioning from staff member to chief executive officer was crucial. I needed to learn how to drive this car, multitask, keep my eyes on the road, and use the rearview mirror to see where we've been as we decide what path to take. I'm proud of the changes in the organization over the last three years -- using technology to reach out to scores of fraternity men, increasing our digital and media presence, and proud of the trusting relationships with our interfraternal partners and how those have grown.
