The organisation:

Golden Lane Housing (GLH) is an established charity formed by Mencap whose aim is to provide quality homes to those with learning disabilities – giving them the chance to build their lives and fulfil their potential. We're currently operating and developing a number of innovative housing projects across the south east. These initiatives span the housing spectrum – from working with private landlords to buying and developing new properties.

The role:

Your role is to unearth and develop commercially viable housing opportunities – whatever these may be. Commercially and financially astute, you'll create partnerships and solutions across the housing spectrum from social housing to ethical investors. You'll start with an established pipeline, but you'll also be expected to build relationships and acquire leases/manage or develop properties to achieve our goals. And as part of your broader remit, you'll liaise with families and prospective tenants – working with service providers and commissioning agencies to get necessary funding – as well as providing leadership and guidance to internal teams and colleagues.

About you:

We're looking for someone with substantial project experience, especially in the fields of housing, development or community care. Of graduate calibre, you're someone who understands the private and social rental market and gets the finer nuances of contract negotiation. But as important is your tenacity, your persuasive nature, your versatility in communicating with different audiences, your belief in what we're trying to achieve and your passion for delivering on our goals.

Wi-Fi signal will be stronger downtown - Daily Tribune

Verizon sets up mobile cell site for two-day FutureMidwest conference.

ROYAL OAK — Verizon Wireless' network is ready for all the tweeting, blogging and Internet surfing that is expected to take place at the Royal Oak Music Theatre, where hundreds of social networking enthusiasts will convene today and Saturday for FutureMidwest 2010.

The company has deployed and activated a temporary cell site, called a cell on wheels (COW), to boost 3G data capacity by 50 percent and voice capacity by 33 percent at the two-day conference, which will educate participants about new ways to grow a business, build relationships and communicate via the social Web, and how to implement digital strategies into their marketing and business plans.

A COW is a fully functional, generator-powered mobile cell site that enhances wireless capacity in a specific location and works especially well in dense areas with large crowds.

For wireless phone users with other service providers who may not be able to get a signal, Verizon Wireless is using the strength and reliability of its network to create a mobile hotspot where anyone with a Wi-Fi capable device will be able to connect to Verizon Wireless' network.

"Many FutureMidwest attendees are tech savvy individuals who will rely on their smartphones and other wireless devices to blog, post updates on their favorite social networking sites, exchange e-mail and surf the Internet," said Greg Haller, regional president for Verizon in Michigan, Indiana and Kentucky. "We have made these network enhancements to ensure our customers. Even other wireless users with Wi-Fi capable devices can depend on our high-speed wireless network to be connected and take care of business."

Verizon Wireless has invested more than $55 billion since it was formed — $5.5 billion on average every year — to increase the coverage and capacity of its nationwide network and to add new services.

Since the company was formed in 2000, Verizon Wireless has invested more than $1.4 billion on improvements to its wireless network in Michigan. This year, the company will spend an additional $200 million on its statewide network.

In Michigan, Verizon Wireless has more than 2,100 employees and 70 company-owned retail locations in more than 40 cities.
